To mark this holiday, the Akilah Institute for Women has partnered with Sleek Communication to host "Diva’s Night 2012” at K Club in Nyarutarama, above Woodlands Market. In line with this year’s theme of "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures”, part of the event proceeds will directly benefit the Akilah Scholarship Fund.Entertainment will be provided by several of East Africa’s finest female DJs, including Kenya’s No. 1 DJ Frida, Uganda’s finest DJ Mary Jo, and Rwanda’s one and only DJ Ni Drey. There will also be karaoke, and fun prizes won through raffles and other competitions.Entry is Rwf10,000, which includes an official Akilah Institute bracelet and will support our students’ education. Show your support for women this Thursday evening, and dance the night away to celebrate International Women’s Day 2012!Film: Zero Tolerance for Violence Against WomenInspired and motivated by the International Women’s day, next Thursday March 15, 2012, at 4:00 p.m the GOETHE-INSTITUT/LOK and GIZ (Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit) as well as other organizations in Kigali will launch a competition for young Rwandan filmmakers interested in creating an idea, a treatment and a sample script for a film to deal with violence against women. The purpose is to create a campaign for social awareness and change. The principal award will enable the film director to produce the film. The finished film will be presented during a Gala held on November 30th, 2012 that will conclude a film festival which celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Advocacy: Women and Girls month In Rwanda, IWD 2012 is to be celebrated under the country’s theme: "Empower women and girls to sustain families”, and in Kinyarwanda: "Turusheho kubaka ubushobozi bw’umugore n’umukobwa mu guteza imbere Umuryango.”The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) will launch the Rwanda Women and Girls’ Month 2012, that will run from March 8th to April 5th 2012.
