Police in Gatsibo District, on Sunday, arrested a 30-year old man for allegedly defiling an 11-year old girl.
Police in Gatsibo District, on Sunday, arrested a 30-year old man for allegedly defiling an 11-year old girl.The suspect was reportedly caught red-handed by the child’s mother, at around 3p.m. The victim (names withheld) was immediately rushed to Kiziguro hospital for medical assistance.The suspect worked as a house help in Remera Sector, Kigabiro Cell. He is currently detained at Remera Police station. He confessed the crime claiming to have been under the influence of alcohol.Police statistics indicate that about 255 cases of defilement were registered last year while about 39 were recorded in the last few two months.Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Theos Badege, condemned the crime calling the culprit’s actions inhuman. "This action is unspeakable,” Badege said. He noted that Police has taken a tough stance on rape and called on society to take part in the fight against crime."Children are the future generation of the country, it is therefore paramount that they are protected,” Badege said.
