NGORORERO – An accountant in Sovu sector in Ngororero District has allegedly disappeared with Rwf 1.6m meant for the construction of cattle sheds for Genocide survivors in the area.Alexis Nshimiyimana, who has been working for the sector for the last two years, is said to have disappeared on February 24.He allegedly forged the signature of the sector Executive Secretary, Jean de Dieu Mutoni, in order to withdraw the money from the sector account in Finabank."I was in Kigali when I received a message from the bank that someone had withdrawn the money. I called him [Nshimiyimana] but he denied any involvement. As I was still in the process of finding out  what happened, his phone went off,” Mutoni told The New Times in a phone interview."Then I called my colleagues but we realised that he [Nshimiyimana] had vanished. I immediately alerted district authorities and the police”.Police in the district have mounted a search to determine the whereabouts of the accountant.Reports indicate that Nshimiyimana might have gone with another yet to be determined amount of money as a search at his home revealed seven receipt booklets which he did not report to the district authority."We are yet to determine the exact amount of money he received but did not report to the district. We think it might be as much as what he took from the bank,” Mutoni said.
