Editor, Allow me to express my optimism that the national football team, Amavubi, can actually upset Nigeria on the latter’s home turf in the return leg of the African Nations Cup qualifiers in June. You can dismiss me as unrealistic but I insist that it is possible. It is true Amavubi missed a number of glorious chances in the first leg in Kigali, but I strongly believe that the players and coaching staff identified the weaknesses, which they will, no doubt, fix over the next three months. It should be noted that Nigeria, despite boasting an array of European based superstars, narrowly survived at Kigali Regional Stadium, with Amavubi continuing its impressive displays under coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.Although it could be argued that Nigeria is one of the continent’s soccer powerhouses, it is clear that the Super Eagles are, currently, not the same team to beat as was the case in the past. While I am generally happy with Micho’s style, I reckon he should probably bring in more young blood. With thorough preparation, and I mean from now, Amavubi can easily tear the Eagles apart in Abuja come June 17. But the work must start now…George RwegoKigali
