MUSANZE–Land officers and land management students have been advised to play their part to comply with the national land consolidation policy. Addressing a land management workshop organised by Ruhengeri Higher Institute of Education (INES), Prof. Erich Weiser of Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, said, "We need to know how wide and interrelated the issues of land are. Land use, planning and evaluation have a big role towards community development.” The three-day workshop attracted district land officers, land survey students, officials from Rwanda Natural Resource Authority and the national task force on irrigation and mechanisation. Several Joint Agriculture Sector Review reports have shown that the land use consolidation policy has played a key role in the growth of the agricultural sector. The institute’s rector, Fr. Dr. Deogratius Niyibizi, said that through its orientation of enhancing applied sciences, INES recognises the shortage of skilled labour as one of the major challenges for land management.
