NYAGATARE–Maize farmers in Nyagatare District have been advised to work with the Rwanda Grains and Cereals Corporation (RGCC) so that they can easily access markets for their produce.The call was made on Friday during a one-day meeting organised by RGCC andResearch Into Use (RIU), a DFID-supported project that works with RGCC to promote maize farming in the country.Eric Ntukabumwe, RIU’s representative, told farmers that there is a lot in store for them if they stand up and work with the new project that will fix better prices for their maize production.Rwanda Grains and Cereals Corporation is a consortium of government and private sector entities that seek to provide constant markets for farmers’ agricultural produce across the country."RGCC works with RIU to ensure that farmers produce quality maize that will getconstant markets. This is an opportunity that you need to exploit,” he said."RGCC is a timely solution to farmers who have been experiencing constant price fluctuations for their products.”During the meeting, farmers welcomed the new project as it is a solution to the expected thousands of tons of maize production this season."We are expecting many tonnes of maize this season due to enough rainfall that favoured production. We are pleased with the new project that seeks to buy all our produce at regular prices,” said Anasthase Bazatsinda, of Ejohazaza Maize Cooperative.
