A business registration agency has been established to ease doing business in the country. The development is set to help improve the country’s international ranking in the business environment.
The agency, whose board was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, will operate under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The State Minister for Industry and Investment Promotion, Vincent Karega, said that the agency is a Government initiative and is in line with international business good practices.
"It is intended to facilitate business operators by putting all registration activities under one roof," Karega said.
Registration issues include business registration titles, land title, mortgages, and intellectual property rights. The body will work closely with banks to help them understand people’s collateral.
A draft law governing the organisation of insurance business in Rwanda, as well as a bill determining procedures of disposal of assets in which the State has a stake, have also been approved.
The Cabinet also appointed Brigadier General Dr Norbert Karimba as Defence Liaison Officer in the East African Community (EAC) and elevated Major Ferdinand Safari to the rank of Colonel, and immediately appointed him as the country’s Defense attaché in the US.
