NYAGATARE – Two men were arrested in Kigali, yesterday, days after they allegedly stole Rwf 23 million from a shop in Gihengeri Village, Mukama Sector in Nyagatare District. Eyewitnesses say the suspects were in possession of two guns which they used to shoot and injure Rose Nikambabonye, the wife of a shop owner, as she tried to fight them off.The thieves later dumped the guns in Nyagihanga Village and disappeared, residents said.Local leaders told The New Times that a third robber was killed by his own colleagues during the scuffle with Nikambabonye. According to Mukama Sector Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Twagirayezu, the woman who was injured is steadily recovering at Ngarama Hospital.He said robbery was a rare occurrence in the area, adding that residents would be relieved to hear that the thieves were arrested."It is good news that the two were arrested,” Twagirayezu said, adding the incident took place at around 8:30p.m."The brave woman was alone in the house...she tried to fight them but was overwhelmed and shot in the arm. In the process, they also shot their colleague who died instantly.”
