RUHANGO – Police in Ruhango District is holding a man identified as Fidele Ndayisaba (no relation to Kigali City Mayor) in connection with the murder of one, Pascal Kayumba, 72.Kayumba was killed earlier this week.Ndayisaba, currently held at Kabagali Police Station, is alleged to have strangled his father to death, after the latter attempted to stop him from beating up Kayumba’s 15-year-old nephew. The incident happened in Bihembe Village, of Kabagali Sector.The suspect was apprehended by residents on Wednesday morning as he tried to flee the area, local authorities said.Police spokesperson, Superintendent Theos Badege, said: "It is a shame for people to kill their relatives over minor issues even when there are clear mechanisms to solve whatever differences that might exist,” he observed."We call upon residents to always solve conflicts peacefully”.Sosthene Habimana, the Executive Secretary of Kabagali, who visited the scene of crime, condemned the murder and appealed to residents to always be vigilant and prevent crime."We call upon everyone to report any kind of conflict which might arise between family members in order to take appropriate measures before it ends up in homicide. Even simple feuds may culminate into death. We need to be very careful whenever people start bickering; even when we think it is just a simple quarrel”.In September, last year, a young man in Munanira cell in the same sector, killed his aunt over land.
