Editor,Please allow me through your newspaper, to address EWSA – the national power and water utility – as a matter of agency.EWSA has delayed to deliver solar water heaters. Rwanda had started experiencing electricity shortages with some areas going for hours with no power. EWSA introduced solar-powered water heaters to meet the increasing demand for electricity. The project was launched by the State Minister for Water and Energy, Emma-Francoise Isumbingabo, last year, with a promise that solar water heaters would be in place in a month’s time but that has not been the case.Solar water heating is a renewable energy technology, where sun rays are used to heat water from a storage tank. The good initiative by the government of Rwanda to minimise energy consumption and meet the energy demand should not be delayed by EWSA as it will reduce the demand of electricity among bigger users and reduce importation of other energy sources.Abdul KiyembaKigali
