Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has been urged to dissolve parliament and call for immediate elections, state radio reported on Tuesday.Citing the fact that Zimbabwe is still under the Lancaster House Constitution, war veterans in the country said President Mugabe must dissolve parliament and call for immediate elections. The freedom fighters have also called for the dissolution of the Constitution Select Committee (COPAC), saying the constitution making process has taken too long to complete. They expressed disappointment at COPAC’s slow pace in coming up with the much awaited constitution to the people of Zimbabwe. "We are not happy with this process, it has failed to deliver a new constitution and COPAC must be disbanded and President Mugabe should call for elections under the Lancaster House Constitution,” Elfas Chitera, who is the Harare Province War Veterans Chairman, was quoted by ZBC News as saying. The Harare War Veterans Secretary for Information and Publicity Hillary Maphosa said all these delays clearly show that COPAC has failed to deliver the supreme law to the country. He said some members in constitution making body are buying time in order to line their pockets with hefty allowances while trying to delay the holding of elections.

Mugabe is Zanu-PF’s presidential candidate in elections that he insists should be held this year to retire an unstable inclusive government he formed with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai in 2009 following disputed elections the previous year.
