The Amavubi Stars today failed to capitalise on successive chances in their opening match of the African National Cup 2013 qualifiers 2013 against the Super Eagles in Nigeria, with the game ending 0-0 at the Kigali Regional Stadium.

The Rwandan side, which did not field any professional player, were generally the better side but their strikers failed to grab all the three points for the hosts, leaving them with an uphill task in the second leg away in Abuja in June.

This is the second successive draw the Nigerians, who boasted a host of European-based players, have secured in Kigali, following the 1-1 all draw at Amahoro National Stadium in 2005.

Both teams did not feature at the just-concluded Afcon 2012 tournament, co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea – a tournament won by Zambia.

The next Nations Cup finals will take place in South Africa next year.
