NORTHERN PROVINCE

MUSANZE — Local and religious leaders in Musanze district have under gone training on the use and management of land.

The training was organised by an umbrella organisation of Human Rights Non Government Organisations (NGOs) in the Great Lakes Region-LDGL. Others who have benefited from the training include representatives of NGOs and agriculture engineers.

LDGL operates in Rwanda, Burundi and DR Congo. According to Pascal Nyiribakwe, the NGO’s President the awareness campaign is aimed at addressing the problem of land wrangles.

He revealed that after the campaign, they would make a report to the concerned ministry on the challenges facing land management and write recommendations on how to protect land owners.

Among other areas which need attention, he cited cases of land redistribution, compensation (in case of evacuation), especially in towns.

During their most recent training, Nyiribakwe discussed at length the constitutional provisions regarding land use and management.

He highly believes that residents’ knowledge of the laws governing land use and management would solve land problems in the villages.
