Cliff Owuor believes he can rewrite history with APR Basketball Club ahead of this year’s zone V club championship.

The 34-year-old tactician who joined the army-side in 2005 is one of the most celebrated coaches in the club’s history and in Rwanda.

Owuor who led Kenya’s Ulinzi to the club championship title back in 2002 has already embarked on the event’s preparations and believes that APR has the quality to go all the way in the tournament.

"APR has not competed in this event before but it has the quality to realise this dream,” the Kenyan tactician insists.

"Besides, we are playing at home so we hope that the home ground advantage will work in our favour,” he continued.

APR stepped up its preparations last Wednesday at its new courts in Kimisagara and has since under-gone two daily training sessions in the morning and evening hours.

The club championship will run from September 8-15 and is expected to attract clubs from over eight countries ranging from Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and hosts Rwanda.

Apart from Rwanda (hosts) and reigning champions, Kenya who will field two clubs in each category (men and women), all the other countries are expected to field one club in each category.

The one-week tournament which will be staged at Amahoro indoor stadium is jointly organised and sponsored by the local basketball body and the ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.Ends
