African climate conference begins today in Kigali

Rwanda is hosting the 30th Climate Outlook forum for the Greater Horn of Africa in partnership with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC). 

This meeting, from 27-29 February, aims to develop a consensus for the regional climate outlook for the March- May rainfall season and brings together climate scientists from Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Southern Sudan and Kenya.  

The meeting will focus on the role of the regional climate outlook forum in providing early warning systems for drought and other climate related disasters.

The last regional forum took place in Entebbe, Uganda, December 2011.
