Genuine Kunga therapy services, a Rwandan firm that offers physiotherapy services, has announced plans to set up an international training centre that will be based in Kigali.

The therapy centre has been treating people with various ailments including back pain, issues of the joints, migraines and depression, damaged disks, paralysis, muscles, and bone fracture among others.

The centre, which has been operating for eight years in Rwanda, mainly offers physiotherapy services, which is also the inspiration of its name "Kunga”, an ancient form of physiotherapy offered in the Rwandan tradition.

Physiotherapy is the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather than by drugs or surgery.

The centre also offers therapy for children with disability such as those who can’t sit, fail in classes among other issues.

Gad Kirenga, the CEO of Genuine Kunga said that the training courses will be developed in partnership with F.I.R.M.A, a federation of reflexology and well-being professions.

"We have registered Genuine Kunga Therapy Centre as a member of the federation. We have also been nominated as the federation’s representative in Africa,” he said.

The development emerged from a study tour from August 15 to August 26 with the aim to legitimize and document Kunga therapy practices.

"We are partnering with the federation in documenting Kunga therapy practice and setting up an international reflexology training centre in Africa with headquarters in Kigali, Kimironko sector. The centre will teach reflexology and Kunga therapy. we will be using the book in which Kunga therapy practice will be documented,” he said.

Candidates from all countries across the globe are allowed to register for the courses, he noted.

The centre’s branches

The company is registered in Rwanda and has different branches in Kigali – one close to Kimironko market on KG ST 8, another one is next to the former Kimironko Prison and the other branch in Gishushu.

The branch in Gishushu is located in Rukiri cell, Remera sector, KG 203 Street, House 7, near Gasabo district headquarters.

The centre also operates a branch in Rubavu district which is located behind the main mosque while the branch in Muhanga district is located in front of Polyclinique Medicale La Providence.

Genuine Kunga therapy centre also maintains branches in Harare, Zimbabwe and Central African Republic.

The centre also deploys therapists in Dubai among other countries to treat people on appointment.

"In Kigali we receive 70 people in general both children and adults, every day. In Muhanga we receive around 20 people every day. In Rubavu we receive around 35 people per day. In Zimbabwe we receive about 50 people per day. In eight years, we have treated over 22,000 people in Rwanda according to our medical reports,” Kirenga recently told The New Times.
