The RAF official in charge of the marathon, Rosette Umugwaneza told Times Sport that this year’s event is set expected to attract many participants compared to last year’s edition.
"We expect to register many local and foreign athletes to this year’s event, a feat which will make the event more competitive,” Umugwaneza said.
Umugwaneza further confirmed that 174 participants have expressed their willingness to take part in the one-day international championship.
A total of 144 athletes from the AIMS sponsored Ecole de Kibungo have conformed their participation in the Run for Fun event while 34 athletes will take part the half Marathon and Full Marathon events.
628 athletes finished the full & half marathon and run for fun events which had attracted 3005 athletes last year.
Kenya’s Daniel Rotich won the full marathon in last year’s edition with the closest Rwandan, Félix Ntirenganya settling for 11th position.
