Gatare advises on mobile technology

MUSANZE - The Minister in the President’s Office in charge of ICT, Dr. Ignace Gatare, has called on financial service providers and telecommunication operators to work hand-in-hand with local authorities to promote mobile money services. Gatare was speaking during the launch of an awareness campaign on mobile technology."The population should use services like mobile money and mobile banking to improve on their businesses,” he said.There are currently 4.4 million people on mobile telecom subscription, with only 9% currently using mobile money transfer, mobile banking and other facilities."Every Rwandan should have access and benefit more from the services. ICT is one of the pillars of economic transformation of our country and we want to see a simple tool like a mobile phone making this process happen” During the launch, commercial banks and telecom operators exhibited their services and products.  "The use of ICT will be incorporated among our priorities, it’s a strong pillar the government has availed to us to led our development plans” said Aime Bosenibamwe, the Governor of the Northern Province. The campaign has so far been launched in the districts of Kamonyi, Kayonza, Rubavu and Musanze.
