Two held over rape in Ruhango

RUHANGO-Police in Ruhango district is holding two suspects in connection with the rape of a 21-years old woman.The suspects, Samson Sekidende and Bavumiragira Etienne are being held at Nyamagana Police Station while two others; Venuste Hitimana and Thomas Bihoyiki, remain on the run.According to local authorities, the victim hails from Ngororero district, Western Province and was heading to Ruhango to visit her aunt."Information we gathered indicate that the girl was first raped by three young men while the fourth suspect held her for the whole night. She was found the next morning (Monday) at one of the suspects’ house”, the Mayor of Ruhango, Francois Xavier Mbabazi said. "We urge the public to provide us with information which might lead to the arrest of all the suspects for justice to take its course,” Mbabazi requested."The Public should also be willing to collaborate with security organs and authorities in preventing such crimes even before they occur”.The suspects deny the allegations levelled against them.By Press time, the results of medical tests conducted on the victim at Kabgayi Hospital were yet to be revealed.
