National football league side Mukura Victory Sport is set to organise a 1994 Genocide memorial tournament in July with dates yet to be confirmed.

The team’s manager Patrick Kayiranga told Times Sport that the tournament held annually will be aimed at remembering not only fallen Mukura football players and club’s committee members but all victims of the 1994 Genocide.

"We are planning to host the tournament before or in July. We shall first talk to the local football body Ferwafa to avoid collision in scheduled national fixtures.”

"Then this will enable us to draft dates for the tournament which is set to involve only four teams,” Kayiranga said. He also said that Mukura lost five players and some committee members in the 1994 genocide period.

Kayiranga further added that the finals will be played at Huye grounds, the home of Mukura football club. In last year’s edition, Mukura won the genocide memorial tournament after dragging APR to a 5-1 in all legs.

APR lost the first leg 1-4 to Mukura with the champions managing a 1-0 only at their home ground over the military side.

Meanwhile, Mukura which was founded in 1963 has managed to win three Rwandan Cups in 1986, 1990 and 1992 but has never won any league title.

Mukura has made four first round appearances in the CAF Confederations Cup from 1993, 1994, 2000 and 2001 and preliminary exits in1982, 1987 and 1988.

In this year’s, Mukura is also among the favorite winners for this year’s national league title with 23 points and placed on fifth position on the league table.
