The national junior volley team that will be making its debut on continent has started a two week residential training camp at Rwanda National University, Butare. The team is comprised of forty male and female junior volleyball players.

The 2008 African Cup of Nations championship team is being handled by FRVB vice president Alexandre Ryambabaje and Jean-Marie Vianney Nsegiyumva.

Juniors are preparing for their first appearance in any an African Cup of Nations event. The venue of the event is yet disclosed but Tunisia is among the potential venues for the one week continental junior showcase.

According to Gertrude Kubwimana, Executive Secretary of the Volleyball Federation, FRVB, the players are planned to have much international experience as they will form the future senior team.

"It will be their first participation and we want to give them good training,” she said.

The players were selected from 400 participants during last year’s national talent search program conducted by the federation around the country.

Kubwimana added that they are the potential national senior team which will be vying for a place for the 2012 London Summer Olympic games. The selection for the final team to play at the forthcoming tournament will be done after the training camp.
