EASTERN PROVINCE:

RWAMAGANA—The Director of Health for Rwamagana district, Emile Gasore has said that over 80 percent of the district residents are vulnerable to poor hygiene.

Presiding over the training of local residents on improving hygiene, Gasore said that a big number of people in hospitals are victims of poor hygiene.

"Majority of the cases in hospitals are a result of poor hygiene; we are looking at possible solutions to this issue,” said Gasore.

Speaking to The New Times after the training, Gasore’s deputy, Yvette Uwanyirigira said that the trainees were selected from schools and local leaders.

One of the trainees, Albertine Kangabe said that the main causes of poor hygiene in the district are ignorance and illiteracy.

The two-week training was sponsored by United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and attended by fifty head teachers and local leaders.
