Last week, ESR/APEM Ruli lifted the Gakenke District interschool 7s tournament held at Nemba pitch. 7 schools participated.ESR/APEM Ruli A beat ACEDI Mataba 26-0 in the finals."The aim of those 7s was to develop Rugby in Gakenke District as it is a new game there,” said Felix Uwitonze who was behind the games in conjunction with the rugby federation.Seven schools, ES Karuganda, ACEDI Mataba, GS Nyundo, GS Nganzo, ES Nyarutovu, ESR/APEM Ruli and GS Rwankuba took part in the tourney.GS Rankuba beat ESR/APEM Ruli B 17-0, to settle for third place.The top players included Jean de Dieu Murekezi (ESR/APEM Ruli) and Felicien Nkurikiyimana (GS Nyundo) and Leonard Hakizimana a.k.a Bogota (ACEDI Mataba). National rugby stars Cambara Marcel Koko and Emmanuel Nemeye officiated at the games.
