Hollywood is becoming one big tragedy!

I remember the day Michael Jackson alarmed us with his death like it was yesterday. I remember staring at the TV in utter shock and hoping to God it was all just a dream; a really bad dream.

I remember the day Michael Jackson alarmed us with his death like it was yesterday. I remember staring at the TV in utter shock and hoping to God it was all just a dream; a really bad dream. But it wasn’t.  Harsh reality as it is, Hollywood stars seem to be dropping like flies. Before we can even butt an eyelid or are just coming to terms with the loss of one icon, another one falls. August 9, 1969 is a day very few people wish to remember. Sharon Tate, an American actress and model and 8 month pregnant wife to film director Roman Polanski was found butchered along with four others. Tate was a few weeks away from giving birth to her first child at the time of her murder by the "Manson Family” headed by Charles Manson, becoming one of the most  terrifying mass murders in history. The King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley, left millions of fans devastated when he died of a prescription drug over dose. Elvis fought a pain killer addiction most of his life. During his career he completely changed music with his chart topping singles. Most famed by becoming a founding member of one of the greatest rock bands in all-time history known as the Beatles, John Lennon became the victim of a premeditated plot by an obsessed fan who shot him in the back four times.  The Beatles’ music continues to sell and make money till this day and Lennon lives through his music. Rap legends Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG deaths were a hard blow to the hip hop industry and the people who knew them. The two rap icons were both shot with Tupac taking the first spot in the ground. Young and tremendously talented, their music still lives on till today.Curt Cobain, lead singer of Nirvana was working his way up the charts with every song he released. He is singlehandedly responsible for the uprise of grunge music. On April 5th 1994, Cobain was found with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head most certainly under the influence of drugs. Even though she wasn’t exactly in Hollywood or the entertainment Industry for that matter, another huge shocker was the death of Princess Diana in Paris. She along with her beau Dodi Al Fayed were killed in a car crash on August 31 1997. The world grieved her loss and continues to do so till this day. Patrick Swayze warmed our hearts from the day he busted onto our screens as Jonny Castle in the 80’s dance movie Dirty Dancing. His role as an upset ghost back to protect his girl from is murderer/friend in Ghost warmed us up even more. His tragic battle and final succumbing to pancreatic cancer on September 15, 2009 left everyone saddened.Aaliyah Haughton, a famous RnB singer was truly well on her way to superstardom till August 25, 2001 became her last day. The singer died along with 8 other people in a plane crush in the Bahamas. Millions of fans the world over were crushed by the sudden death of one of the industry’s most promising people.Rapper and member of the all girl group band TLC, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes died in a car accident in 2002. Lopes, who was driving, died instantly. She had earlier paid her respects to fellow artist Aaliyah and then tragically followed suit.Aussie actor Heath Ledger best known for movies like 10 Things I Hate about You, Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight could have just been the next Mel Gibson. The actors’ portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight earned him massive acclaim. But on January 22, 2008, the world was informed of Ledger’s death caused by an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. At the age of 28, tragedy couldn’t be greater! Not too far back, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London flat. A drug over dose was investigated as the cause of death.  Winehouse had long battled with drug and alcohol addiction, leading to her management canceling her concerts on more than one occasion. In fact, during one of her stage appearances she was so drunk; she could only mumble the lyrics of her songs as she struggled to keep up with her band. Needless to say, she was booed off stage. A multi-faceted artiste, Brittany Murphy starred in films such as Clueless; Girl, Interrupted; 8 Mile and Sin City. She was the voice of Luanne Platter on the animated series King of the Hill and had also released a hit music single ‘Faster Kill Pussycat’ among other songs. On December 20, 2009, Murphy went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. An autopsy performed on December 21, 2009, said the primary cause of Murphy’s death was pneumonia, with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication involving legal over-the-counter and prescription medication. Most recently, Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room. Her head was under the water in a position that suggested she had hit her head back and maybe passed out. The world is still in shock at the loss of another icon gone too soon.  I don’t know which of these people troubled the world the most but we can only hope that they are in a better place.Other shockers include model and actress Anna Nicole Smith, Steve Irwin, Apple genius Steve Jobs, comedian Bernie Mac and fashion designers Alexander McQueen and Gianni Versace.
