Gisagara residents commend governance initiative

GISAGARA–Residents of Kansi Sector, Gisagara District have extolled the government for addressing their concerns during the just concluded governance month.The Governance Month, which kicked off on December 13, 2011 and ended in late January 2012, sought to assess and strengthen good governance stepping up service delivery.During the ceremony to mark the closure of the month in Gisagara District on Monday, several residents who were outstanding in music and sports contests were rewarded.  The best performing village leaders were also awarded with radio receivers in recognition of their efforts in promoting good governance and striving for people’s wellbeing.Those who spoke to The New Times said they were pleased with the achievements and services received during the entire period of the campaign."Our queries were well addressed and we learnt a lot on various ongoing government programmes and policies,” observed Damascene Ngenzi.The district vice mayor in charge of Social affairs, Domitille Uwingabiye, said they were committed to improve service delivery, even after the end of the campaign."Service delivery and responding to residents’ demands and complaints will remain our top priority”, Uwingabiye pledged."We will make sure that our residents own the governance process and participate more in the leadership of this district.”Last year, Gisagara District emerged the best performer in a governance contest organised by the Office of the Ombudsman.
