Rwamagana - Three maternity wards worth Rwf 120 million were handed over to Rwamagana District yesterday. The buildings in Kigabiro, Rubona and Ruhunda health centres were constructed by the government with support from Lux Development Project.According to Dr. Parfait Uwariraye, the Director of Rwamagana Hospital, the new facilities were timely."The maternity wards will cater for rural mothers, who used to travel long distances in search of healthcare,” said Uwariraye, adding that they had enough qualified staff to run them.Lux officials said plans were underway to help the district get enough maternal care facilities.Meanwhile, local residents said there was still a lack of specialists in several medical fields."We don’t have specialists in our hospitals...not even a single gynaecologist in the Province. We rely entirely on Kigali hospitals in case mothers get complications,” said Jean d’Amour Mbonimana, of Nzige Sector.
