NYAGATARE - Fire gutted a commercial complex in the busiest commercial centre in Nyagatare town on Friday morning, destroying goods worth millions, according security sources. The fire that ravaged the block belonging to Jeanne Ebawo, started in the wee hours of Friday morning, leaving all eight shops burnt to ashes shortly after the business owners had closed, according to eye witnesses.By Friday morning, police, army and area residents were still fighting to put off the fire and the fire brought under control at exactly 5 AM."Had EWSA (Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority) been alerted in time to disconnect electricity, the fire would have gutted fewer goods. By the time they disconnected, the building’s eight doors had seriously caught fire,” an eye witness narrated.Police said the cause of the fire came from an electrical workshop belonging to one, Innocent Nsengiyumva. When contacted, a seemingly disturbed Ebawo said the tragedy leaves her ruined as the building was not insured."It was early in the morning when I received a call from a neighbour that my house was ablaze…this is a horrible loss because my building is not ensured,” she bemoaned.
