Primus LeaguePolice 2-0 IsongaPOLICE climbed to the top of the Primus League table after a well deserved 2-0 victory over Isonga on Wednesday.Even without their star striker Meddie Kagere, the law enforcers had enough firepower to see off Eric Nshimiyimana’s youngsters in front of a modest crowd at Kigali Regional Stadium.Burundian international Laudit Mavugo scored either side of half time to leave Police level with reigning champions APR but the former top the charts on goal difference.Mavugo opened the scoring on the 20th minute after uncharacteristic poor defending from Faustin Usengimana. He added a second 15 minutes into the second half with a well-timed volley.Police head coach Goran Kopunovic, who was serving a one-match touchline ban, hailed his team for the win."It was important to win the match and I’m happy that the boys did just that. We are in a good position now and are going to try to keep winning,” the Serbian said.Kopunovic was slapped with a one-match touchline ban after being found guilty of improper conduct during last month’s Primus League encounter with Marine at Kicukiro stadium. This was the second time Kopunovic had been charged with misconduct.Last September, he was forced to watch Police’s Primus Cup fixture against La Jeunesse from the stands for a similar offense during a stormy Primus Cup encounter with APR.For Isonga, defeat means that they remain in ninth place with ten points. The first round wraps up this weekend with APR hosting Police, Kiyovu playing away to Etincelles and AS Kigali entertaining Nyanza. On Sunday, Rayon Sport host Amagaju, Mukura play away to Marines while La Jeunesse host Espoir.
