President Paul Kagame has stressed the importance of intra-African cooperation in tackling challenges that African countries face.

"Every country on our continent has challenges. In Rwanda, we have our own challenges. In Guinea there are challenges. Working together there is no challenge we can’t address,” Kagame said in a statement tweeted by his office on Monday, April 17, as the Rwandan leader visited Guinea-Conakry, his last stop in a three-nation tour of West Africa.

Kagame has since Saturday been visiting countries in West Africa, first Benin, then Guinea Bissau, before arriving in Guinea-Conakry, with of the hosting president hailing the visit as a demonstration of strong ties between Rwanda and their countries. The tour and discussions held have also been praised as a reaffirmation of the potential of intra-African and South-south cooperation.

On his arrival in Conakry on Monday, Kagame was welcomed by his host, Mamady Doumbouya, the interim president of Guinea-Conakry.

Rwanda and Guinea signed several bilateral agreements when President Kagame visited the country in 2016, opening the doors for deeper collaboration in political consultations, health, immigration, planning and development, and air services, among others.

During his latest tour of West Africa, Kagame has taken part in a number of engagements, including witnessing the signing of nine bilateral deals between Rwanda and Benin on Sunday, as well as holding bilateral talks with his counterparts.
