Nyaruguru-The civic education training programme, commonly known as Itorero, has extended to the village and school levels in order to involve more people.It aims at engaging participants in development activities as well as mentoring responsible leaders.Previously, Itorero targeted special groups, including teachers, leaders, students, youth, and health volunteers, among others. Presently, the programme is extending to involve every resident; reaching them in their respective villages and schools.According to Boniface Rucagu, the National Chairman of Itorero Taskforce, the move is intended to bring everybody on board.Speaking in Nyaruguru District last Friday, Rucagu noted that the programme is contributing a lot in mindset change, which he says is crucial in the development process."Itorero was established with the aim of helping Rwandans develop through mindset change and the respect of our values. We believe that if every resident passes through it, we will be able to speed up our development,” he noted.Rucagu disclosed that over 300,000 people have passed through the programme, noting that their contribution to the country’s development was remarkable."Approach your neighbours and help them to adopt new behaviours needed for us to reach a sustainable development. Let us cultivate the culture of excellence and hard work to develop our district,” Munyantwari implored.There is no reason, he added, to continue having poor people in our society. "Everything begins with the awareness of opportunities that we have and then we act to reach a positive change in the way we live. Mindset, thinking and the action we take will determine who we shall be in the future”, Munyantwari noted.He urged Intore to fight divisionism and strive for unity and better living conditions among residents.
