Egyptian Mossad Rashad is pushing for a return to coaching Rwanda’s national sitting volleyball team and is among candidates in contention for the top job, Times Sport has learnt.
Mossad, who is thought to be a favorite for the job, is no stranger to the Rwandan Sitting volleyball, having previously had spells with Rwanda as head coach from 2019.
Rwanda qualified for the Tokyo Paralympic Games in the women’s sitting volleyball for the second consecutive time in 2019 after beating Egypt in Kigali to retain the African Championship.
They became the first Sub-Saharan women’s team in history, in any sport, to compete at the Paralympic Games at Rio 2016. They eventually finished eighth following defeat by Canada.
Mossad was also in charge when Rwanda participated in the 2022 World Sitting Volleyball Championship held in Bosnia and Herzegovina in November last year.
In an exclusive interview with Times Sport, Jean Baptiste Murema, the National Paralympics Committee(NPC) president said that "we want Mossad to be the one to return because the results we saw in the past years were good and he was the coach who would make us happy if he returns.”
However, Murema insists that the vacancy for the sitting volleyball national team coach remains open for all potential candidates as long as they present potential to bring impact to the country’s progress in the sport.
Candidates have until April 17 to have submitted their applications.
