Stranger called me and told me that she had at long last managed to get my number after so long because she had lost her phone where the number had been saved! stranger called me and told me that she had at long last managed to get my number after so long because she had lost her phone where the number had been saved! One thing that is for sure, neither her name nor her voice did ring any bell in my mind! What was I going to do in order to get out of this scenario?
I had to find out whether I knew her or not or better put, if she was actually what she claimed to be. Having nearly been de-toothed at FoEyes by ladies who claimed to know me, I was not ready to for another similar encounter. As the English saying goes, "once bitten, twice shy”! I never like playing a hero, because there are hardly many living heroes!
Talking to the so called Krissy, I had to do it with lots of caution, many unscrupulous people are out there wondering in the shadows just waiting for a chance to pounce on their unsuspecting their victims. With all the caution, I decided to proceed; nobody can outsmart the Villager in Kigali.
After a few words with her, I confessed that, I did not know who she was and asked her to shed more light on how she knew me! I requested her to tell me who I was and she was quick to tell me that, I am a man and that, I never gave her my name but she knows me by face!
It was getting trickier by the second! "What name had you saved in your phone,” I asked her? She could not answer. "Where and how did I give you my phone contact?,” I asked. She told me that, we had met somewhere in Bilyogo and that, I getting out of the car, she happened to be passing by and I gave her my phone number! I never give my phone number to strangers; maybe this was a case of mistaken identity! On closer scrutiny, I could hear someone in the background talking to her, every time I asked her, she would pause as if waiting for an answer from her companion!
I asked her what she did for a living and after a short pause, she told me that she was a student at
sijui APAS fourth year! Where did she live, and she told me that at Nyakabanda just near Cafe Nyakabanda; after a short pause, she suggested that, me meet at Cafe Nyakabanda. Wait a minute, she told me that she was eighteen (the normal age of most women)! "Where are you?”she asked me!
Thinking quickly, I told her that, I was at Green Corner enjoying roasted Fish; that must have raised her appetite to over 150 percent! "Can I join you there?,” she asked. Of course not, I told her that I was just leaving, why not wait for me at Cafe Nyakabanda , I suggested! "What should I order for?” she asked. I told her to order for roast fish, chips and any drink of her choice!30 minutes later she was calling to tell me that, her order was ready and asking where I had reached!
I told her that, I was just outside Cafe Nyakabanda and asked her what she looked like and what she was wearing! "I am short, putting on a green legging and a red top”, She whispered! Little did she know that, at that same juncture I was over 15km away in the environs of Remera and here she was, shooting herself in the feet! Before you think of telling a stranger that you know him, think twice!
