Rwandans yesterday celebrated Heroes Day. It was a time to reflect and remember those who went the extra mile to serve the country.

Especially those that paid the ultimate price in the pursuit of freedom and the opportunity to build a foundation for the country’s prosperity.

Following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the country had to be built from scratch. Looking at Rwanda today, there is no doubt that the progress made so far, is nothing short of a miracle.

With determination and hard work, the Rwandan people have put back the country on track to a successful nation.

Seventeen years ago, the major battle was liberation, security, unity and the desire to have a place to call home. Today, the focus is moving towards bringing an end to poverty and enabling the people to live a dignified life.

The phrase, "To move forward, one needs to examine their past” cannot be more relevant in Rwanda. To achieve our vision, we should learn from our Heroes.

They had a fighting spirit and love for the country that if emulated, there is no doubt that the country can be propelled  to even greater heights.
