MUKURA advanced into the last eight of the Primus Cup after edging Etincelles in a thrilling contest at Amahoro Stadium.

The Southern Province side, which seems to have rediscovered its form after topping the National Primus League table for the better part of the first round, knocked out Etincelles on penalties (5-4) after a 2-all draw in normal time.

Former Police striker Pekeyake Tuyisenge put Etincelles ahead on the 15th minute before Abedi Mulenda doubled the lead five minutes later.

However, on the stroke of half time, Faustin Habyarimana reduced the deficit after rounding off two defenders (Hamidou Simpinzwe and Gabriel Mugabo) and the goalkeeper Robert Shyaka.

After the break, Mukura continued to push for an equalizer and finally got their reward on the 60th minute when Jean Bosco Harorimana diverted Mike Sebera’s set piece to beat a flat-footed Shyaka.

Both sides looked for a winner but could not find one pushing the match into spot kicks.

Mukura converted all their spot kicks while Etincelles’ Muhadjiri Hakizimana effort hit the woodwork.

Elsewhere, APR, Rayon Sport, Kiyovu and Police were all comfortable winners. APR left Bugesera for dead after a 9-0 win, Rayon thrashed La Jeunesse 5-2, Kiyovu secured a 3-1 victory over ASPOR while Police beat Nyanza 2-0.

Sina Jerome scored a hat-trick with Cedric Amissi and Papy Kamanzi also getting onto the score sheet for the blues.

SEC Academy beat Unity (3-1) while AS Kigali and Marine claimed 1-0 victories over Interforce and Amagaju respectively.
