Editor,
International media reports this week indicate that a group of young Rwandans in the Diaspora protested against Paul Rusesabagina’s visit to the Martin Luther King memorial in the Netherlands.
This demonstrates the Rwandese community’s perception of a villain who has pompously attempted to endear himself to the international community from a tragedy of epic proportions: the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. This is not the first time this ethnic chauvinist has attracted Rwandan’s wrath.
I find it difficult to believe that up to now, Rusesabagina’s has not been prosecuted despite several criminal charges against him. For some time now, Rusesabagina continues to foment hate speech because it appeals to one ethnic group over another and it serves to slant the reporting and does not provide an ethnically-neutral view.
Evidence from Rwanda proves that Rusesabagina has been sending funds to members of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), with the aim of destabilising the region and committing atrocities against innocent citizens.
While some countries have continued to regard Rusesabagina as a redeemer, on the flipside, he stirs up ethnic hatred and hinders the reconciliation process.
