Editor,

Kudos to all the companies that performed exceptionally well at this year’s fourth Annual Rwanda Development Board Business Excellence Awards which was organized on Friday last week.

Specifically on the customer service award, I fully endorse the same views that the Immigration Department was fit to win the customer care award.

I have travelled widely in the region and I can say that the Immigration personnel can be very difficult to deal with. For the last two years, I have realised personnel at the Immigration Department in Rwanda are friendly and deal with clients respectfully.

The department demonstrates an extremely high level of efficiency at all levels right from the headquarters to the regional bureaus as well as the country’s entry points.

And, most importantly, the department is technologically savvy. They always communicate to the public via SMS keen to track their services. It is equally fulfilling to be able to get a VISA in the shortest possible time by just applying online.

The Rwanda Development Board should continue organising such awards to promote excellence and building brands in the country as competition coutrtesy of Rwanda’s entry into the regional blocs such as COMESA and East African Community gathers steam. Moreover, it is a way of rewarding firms that make a noticeable positive difference to the country’s economic development.
