THIS week, members of the local business community appealed to the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to decentralize its services, particularly the business registration unit.

The request is justified and should seriously be put into consideration. 

While RDB has done a great deal of work in enhancing the country’s tourism and investment profile, there is still more to be done to further build on the remarkable progress.

The request by businesses that RDB decentralizes its services is premised on the understanding that such a move would support the setting up and growth of businesses located outside the main urban centres. 

Although ICT has helped bring most of these services closer to the people, decentralizing processes such as business registration will help save time and resources of local businesses, especially start-ups.

By establishing offices in various parts of the country, RDB will be better placed to register and advise more businesses.

For the country to achieve its development goals, it is important that the private sector is given as much support as possible.

Decentralizing RDB services will go a long way in expanding the private sector that is key to the growth of the economy.
