Over 2,000 residents of Buyoga Sector, Rulindo District, were Tuesday awarded certificates after completing a one-month course in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Over 2,000 residents of Buyoga Sector, Rulindo District, were Tuesday awarded certificates after completing a one-month course in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The trainees who included grassroots leaders went through the one month training in basic ICT skills which district officials said was geared towards empowering communities.
Rulindo committed to increase ICT among rural residents in its performance contracts.
Mayor Justus Kangwagye, said the district plans to increase access to ICT in schools, among local leaders and the rest of the residents.
Some of the residents who were given certificates told The New Times the basic knowledge they received would their day-to-day work simpler.
"I now know how to log on isoko website where all commodity market prices are indicated,” noted Patrick Nkurikiyumukiza, a farmer.
"I will be able to send my daily report to my bosses, something I could not do before,” said one of the local leaders.
Dr. Ignace Gatare, the Minister in the President’s Office in charge of ICT, mentioned that the government plans to increase tele-centres and ICT labs in schools throughout the country.
The facilities, according to Gatare, will be efficiently managed to benefit a wider population.
"We want to encourage all districts to integrate ICT training in their performance contracts so that the population gets ICT knowledge,” he said in a separate interview.
