Last year, regional lawmakers floated a proposal to ban polythene bags in all East African Community member states.

Research shows that plastic bags are not biodegradable which makes them a menace to agriculture and the environment.

It is thus opportune for the proposal to be effected among other EAC member states as a means to protect the environment.
