The National University of Rwanda (NUR), School of Public Health, Kicukiro, Kigali, yesterday held its first Scientific Open Day in a bid to share with their mother institution and partner organisations, the achievements they have registered over the years in terms of research output.

Speaking at the occasion, NUR Rector, Prof Silas Lwakabamba, said many partners had contributed a lot to the development of the university in various aspects.
‘Today we want to show our partners that we are putting the money they give us to good use through showing them the achievements and programmes at the school. We also want to request them to continue supporting us,” Lwakabamba noted.
Among the achievements attained are two Centres of Excellence at the University; one in strengthening the health system and the other in Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR TB).
Lwakabamba said they were major breakthroughs for the university, stressing that the MDR TB centre is the fourth in the world and offers training to people from the whole region.
He further noted that they have plans to increase their PhD programmes through partnering with more advanced universities, thus improving the quality of education.
