NYAGATARE — Residents of Nyagatare district have joined the nation in the remembrance of Rwandans that perished during the 1994 Genocide. A peaceful demonstration held recently drew thousands of residents in Nyagatare to offer condolences.

During the commemoration of the 14th anniversary of the genocide Nyagatare residents together with security and local authorities held a peaceful demonstration across town denouncing the ‘Never Again’.

Demonstrators carried placards carrying massages denouncing the Genocide ideology.

Other activities included prayers, testimonies and singing of mourning songs at Umutara Polytechnic university gardens where district authorities and religious leaders from different denominations called for love and forgiveness in order to forge a better country for all Rwandans.

Bosco Rwiriza, the Ibuka district representative asked local leaders, army and police to provide more security to genocide survivors living in the district especially in April mourning period.

"Genocide survivor’s safety is in danger day and night both physically and verbal that’s why before this big congregation I concur you local leaders and security authorities operating in the district to put it among the first priority so that they can again live feeling secure in their homes" Rwiriza pleaded.

Rwiriza noted that Nyagatare district shelters a number of genocide survivors who left other parts of the country likening the district as a sanctuary. He asked the local populace and local leaders to help survivors by giving them a warm reception whenever they need any assistance from them.

The Vice - Mayor for Economic Planning and Finance Anselime Majoro Rurangwa vowed to work hard and see that all genocide survivors gets shelter the activity which is currently going on across the district.

Rurangwa warned those harbouring the genocide ideology that rough of the law will catch up with them if they dare threaten to kill or harm them.
