A 26-year old Rwandan woman in Canada reportedly went missing, last week, in the vast North American country and her whereabouts are yet to be known.
Police in the City of Montreal (SPVM) launched a search for Clemence Umugwaneza who has been missing since last Wednesday.
The police are asking the public to help find the lady, who, according to Canadian media, left her home in good health on January 11, for a walk but never returned.
According to police records, Umugwaneza measures 1.70 meters, weighs 90 kg, has black hair and brown eyes. It is said she left the family home wearing a black hat, a long black coat with a black hood.
Her mother, Redempta Umunezero and her three sisters spoke to the media in Canada, on Tuesday, as police continued the search, noting that she had never disappeared before, was not suicidal, depressed or on drugs, though she suffers from anaemia.
Family and investigators are perplexed by her disappearance. Police have concentrated their search on the banks of the des Prairies River, walking dogs along the waterfront to find any trace of her. So far, they haven’t had any luck, according to reports.
In an interview with The New Times, Eugene Ngoga, the First Consular at Rwanda’s High Commission in Canada, said that the embassy was notified of the disappearance.
"By last evening (Tuesday), she had not been found yet. We have our diplomat in Montreal following up on the issue but, for now, we can only wait for Police to tell us what they find out.”
"We hope to hear from Police... We are also in touch with her family. We will let you know if more information comes in,” Ngoga said.
Umugwaneza’s family lives in Canada.
