The Minister of Youth, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, said yesterday the conference is part of a series of international workshops organized by the African Centre for Strategic Studies, an American organization that deals in defence and security issues in Africa.
He said it’s the first of its kind to be hosted in the East African Community (EAC).
"It will help delegates from various countries acquire skills on how best they can prevent their youth from getting involved in any activities of extremism and terrorism,” he observed.
Eleven African countries will participate, including Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan, Rwanda and Seychelles.
Rwanda was selected to host the workshop due to the strong support the country has offered to international peacekeeping missions, the minister observed.
