APR vs Isonga

THE eagerly awaited friendly between Primus league champions APR and URA of Uganda has hit a brick wall. APR confirmed last evening that the game had been called off after URA’s failure to confirm their availability.

"They (URA) failed to get back to us so we are proceeding with our league fixture against Isonga,” the club Secretary General Adolphe Kalisa said.

It is the second meeting between these sides. In the first meeting, the military side laboured to a 1-0 victory in the preliminary round of the Peace Cup and Ernie Brandts knows that his side will have to work hard to win today’s game which will be played at Amahoro Stadium.

APR know that a win will leave them two points adrift of table leaders Mukura and three points clear of Rayon Sport and Police.

After losing one and drawing three of their nine games, the army side is second alongside the blues and Police with 18 points

On the other hand, Isonga languish in 12th place with five points after a run of two defeats, two draws and a win.

With the URA friendly very unlikely, APR has turned to Uganda’s Express FC and the Tanzanian pair of Simba and Yanga ahead of their Orange African Champions League first round clash against Tusker FC of Kenya. The club has come under strong scrutiny from their fans for failing to go a distance in the lucrative competition.

Last year, APR crashed out in the first round after losing to Tunisia’s Club Africain (2-6) on aggregates. The previous year, DRC’s TP Mazembe ejected the army side in the second round of the competition.
