"Last year KCC collected about Rwf11billion in taxes and other fees, but this year, we have put in place stringent mechanisms and strategies, which will enable collect at least Rwf15 billion,” Nzeyimana said.
The city has put in place a taskforce to operate at the sector and district levels, a move that will help realize our target, he explained.
According to Nzeyimana, the team will also be in charge of teaching tax collectors on how best they can mobilise and sensitise taxpayers to meet their fiscal obligations.
"The main objective of putting in place this team is to ensure that all tax collectors and taxpayers have a common vision regarding the importance of paying taxes because an increase in tax base will enable our country to achieve desired development,” Nzeyimana added.
He also told The New Times that the city management has devised a software programme, known as Hitax, which will be used to monitor those who have paid taxes and those who have defaulted.
