I have always hated Mondays but then again I have always hated January more. Seriously, on every level, there is nothing praise worthy about the month other than the fact that it’s the beginning of another year. And to some that might call for celebration but to me it just means one thing – aging! So seeing as I hate anything that brings me one step closer to gray hair and wrinkles, I feel it is my sworn duty to just detest the month.

Mondays and January have so many things in common, save from the fact that they both do nothing but depress you. I want to meet a person who doesn’t think weekends are the best. There is nothing sweeter than closing office and going home to relax without your boss calling breathing down your neck every 10 seconds!
To me, January stinks just as much as Monday does…maybe even more. After all the heavy partying people get up to, you’d think life would be a little more courteous and let people rest. But no! Reality checks in and all the prior excitement and love of life vanishes in thin air like a fart in the wind.
People are depressed, broke, and most probably full of regret as to why they cleaned out their bank accounts. And that is exactly my problem – why should we feel this way when all we did was celebrate Christ’s birth and the coming of a new year? January blues make you feel like you committed a very serious crime and are now deeply paying for it.
There is simply nothing to do in January. A vast proportion of time is spent stuck in front of the television with little more than tea and biscuits for company –how fun! The same way there is nothing to do on a Monday except attend some really boring meetings or just look ridiculously hangover from all the weekend excitement. What can I say? That nonsense of people saying take the month the way you would any doesn’t quite do it for me.
I take it the way it is and this is how it is. It is boring and full of depression only (except for the ones whose bank accounts seem to just fatten up the more they withdraw!) Don’t you just hate those people? It’s not their fault but I am human and as a typical human, envy is something I have no control over. Most people are absolutely skint –which means no shopping trips unless you are going to window shop; and where is the fun in that?
Another thing is the silly resolutions we come up with. We make them before the year ends thinking the New Year won’t come but then trust it not to disappoint and come even faster than we had hoped. The panic then starts and we start cursing why we even made the stupid things (at least that is what we call them when we fail to commit to them.)
With the exception of thieves, Mondays and Januarys are just a nuisance. Can’t wait for this boring month to end –I am literally counting down the days!
