Government’s re-affirmation to support local industries is a welcome initiative given that the manufacturing sector is critical, if we are to meet the vision 2020 targets.

Recent media reports suggest that the economy is doing well save for a shaky industrial sector. This signifies that there is an underlying problem that requires input from all stakeholders to bolster government’s efforts.

In my opinion, industrial sector players should not look at such support as the only answer to their problems. They must seek for solutions, particularly by putting in place modern management practices and employing a skilled workforce. This would help them to realise tangible benefits.

Ultimately, all these initiatives would facilitate the path towards industrialisation.
