GASABO - Residents of Akintwari Village, Kimironko Sector in Gasabo District have donated Frw 300,000 to Kigali Genocide memorial site during their visit on Saturday.

Led by their coordinator, Joseph Uwimana, the residents said they were able to draw lessons from what happened in the 1994 Genocide.

The emotional tour left most of them in tears as the guides went through the bitter past of Rwanda. They vowed ‘Never Again".

Mary Mukabaranga, a mother who was part of the group, said: "Genocide should never happen again and I call upon all parents to teach the young generation in order to build one nation, one people and one vision."

Uwimana added that most of the residents had sought to understand more about the Genocide, and thus the tour was organised to give them a true picture of the country’s dark past.

"Such sad events motivate people in the fight against genocide ideology in our communities. This is a chance for residents to have a change of heart and mentality in order to promote unity," he said.

Akintwari village has 314 Genocide cases, with 34 of the suspects on the run.

according to a Fidele Gatera, an area Gacaca judge, the village is set to complete Gacaca trials within the next two months.
