The International Paralympics Committee Development Manager Carolin Rickers thinks the country’s impressive performance in the Paralympics Games is the major reason it was selected for the pilot International Paralympics clinic project in Central Africa.

About 70 youngsters between 16-25 from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, DRC and Rwanda will camp in the country from Feb 12-18 to get further training in sitting volleyball, goalball and sitball.

"Rwanda has not only excelled in Paralympics Games but has helped develop the games in other East African countries. This is what convinced us to hold the clinic in Kigali,” Rickers said.

The President of the National Paralympic committee Dominique Bizimana told this paper recently that the goal of the clinic is to boost games of the disabled among the youth.

"Youth games for the disabled are held in Asia, Europe and other continents but not in Africa so this pilot project will boost the continent’s chances of staging the games in the near future.”

Last year, Rwanda won the World Sitball Championship to secure a direct ticket to the London Paralympic Games.
