GATSIBO - 92 couples who had been cohabiting, Friday tied the knot in a mass wedding held in Karubungo Cell, Gitoki Sector in Gatsibo District.

In a message to the newlyweds, Gitoki Executive Secretary, Innocent Kanamugire urged them to respect marriage in conformity with the values and norms of Rwandan culture.

"When you legally tie the knot, it is a foundation of building a safer family. Legal marriages facilitate families in case of legal procedures. Legal marriages provide full rights to children. This is something that you should mobilize every adult to always keep in mind before wedding,” he said.

Dativa Urayeneza and Vital Rukundakuvuga, who had just tied the knot after 20 years of cohabiting, attributed their decision to local leaders in the area who tirelessly taught them the benefits of legalising marriage.

"As we have vowed to live the rest of our lives in a legal status, we are very optimistic that a remarkable improvement will be realized in our family,” the couple said.
